Does anything live in the strand (wrack) line?

Surprisingly, some organisms do live there. Insects, bacteria, and tiny marine animals called amphipods or sandhoppers feed off the detritus found along the wrack or strand line.

Did you find any cool stuff in the strand line?

Occasionally cool and even gross things wash ashore and end up in the strand line. During beach cleanups they've found everything from a kitchen sink to syringes. When we visited the barrier beach, we found this dead marine mammal (probably a dolphin) and a tree washed up!
