This jellyfish is very common in local waters in the summer. The color varies with the age of the jellyfish, ranging from dark reddish-brown to pinkish-yellow. In this area of southern New England, the lion's mane is usually around 6-12 inches but further north it can grow to 8 feet in diameter. Highly toxic sting from tentacles.
