This highly mobile, edible bivalve has circular ribbed shells that are gray to reddish brown in color. They swim by clapping their shells together. Bay scallops have 30-40 blue eyes that are located along the edge of the mantle. They rarely live longer than 3 years and are no longer found abundantly in RI. |
