Pale green to yellow in color, this alga is highly tolerant of pollution and grows well in low salinity to brackish water. This member of the Chlorophyta (green) division of algae grows attached to rocks and shells in salt marshes, tide pools, and the intertidal zones of the open coasts and estuaries of Rhode Island.
