What type of rocks can we expect to see at Beavertail?

Look for shale, phyllite, quartz, and breccia as you walk along the rocky shore at Beavertail. You can't miss the white quartz veins running through the dark gray phyllite. You might also find garnet (a reddish mineral) and pyrite ("fool's gold") embedded in the rocks. Either mineral looks like rusty flecks when they are weathered.
