What is the most serious threat to the salt pond?

The most serious threat to the salt pond is pollution from nearby homes due to septic systems and lawn care products. Residents of the pond region use septic systems which do not necessarily cause pollution problems if they are properly serviced. However, many systems are old, poorly maintained and, therefore, wastewater contaminates groundwater.
