Laughing Gull
(Larus atricilla)

This is the largest of the black-headed gulls, reaching lengths of 17" (43 cm). They have a dark gray mantle, black wing tips, white body and tail. They obtain their name from their noisy call that sounds like cackling. They eat almost anything and have been known to steal food from humans' hands. They are seen along coasts; seldom found far from saltwater.
