Banded Rudderfish
(Seriola zonata)
These fish have a dark band from their eye to the first dorsal fin and distinct dark bands running vertically down their body. They have a "keel" that runs along the lateral line. They are generally less than 11" (28 cm) long. Adults feed on fish and shrimp. They are found in Narragansett Bay when the water gets warm, from August through October. They are often found swimming near bridges, docks, or pier pilings.
