Cunner (Tautogolabrus adspersus) The color of these fish varies somewhat, from reddish brown to greenish gray when young and sometimes the lining of the lips and mouth is bright yellow. They generally only reach about 10" (25 cm) in length. They can prefer coastal waters, and are usually found in eelgrass, rock pools, and harbors. Cunners are not schooling fish. They feed upon small fish, crustaceans, mollusks, worms and eelgrass. These fish inhabit the Bay year round, only moving into deeper waters during colder months. These fish can often be blamed for stolen bait off fisherman's hooks. |
