Smooth dogfish
(Mustelus canis)
The smooth dogfish is a small coastal shark common to Narragansett Bay in the warmer months. They are slender sharks that are light gray in color and have no fin spines or markings along their gray body. Smooth dogfish can reach lengths of up to 5' (1.5 m). They prefer shallow water and muddy or sandy bottoms where they feed on crustaceans and other invertebrates.
