Spiny dogfish (Squalus acanthias) The spiny dogfish is a small coastal shark common to Narragansett Bay and throughout the world. It can be readily identified by the large spine in front of each dorsal fin; small white spots along the sides of the gray body and no anal fin. Spiny dogfish can reach lengths of up to 4' (1.2 m). They are found in the Bay throughout the year and live on the bottom where they feed on small fish and invertebrates. |
