Moon Jellyfish
(Aurelia aurita)
These jellyfish are saucer shaped with a translucent, whitish or pinkish color. They can reach 10" (25 cm) in diameter. They have many short, fringed tentacles and four gonads (reproductive organs) that are horseshoe shaped, together forming a characteristic, very visible four leaf clover pattern on the center of the umbrella. Their sting is only mildly toxic. They are commonly found in the Bay in late spring.
