Bay Scallop
(Argopecten irradians)

These highly mobile, edible bivalves have circular ribbed shells that are gray to reddish brown in color. They swim by clapping their shells together. Bay scallops have 30-40 blue eyes that are located along the edge of the mantle. They rarely live longer than 3 years and are no longer found abundantly in RI.
