"Connections are Everywhere"

All of the living things found in the pond are connected to each other in some way or another. From the smallest phytoplankton to the largest striped bass, all of the life forms are dependent on each other as sources of food. If the balance of life in this pond were to be upset, it could cause the loss of many organisms. For instance, the terns, wading birds, and small bluefish all feed on juvenile silversides. The silversides in turn feed on zooplankton which feed on phytoplankton. If any part of the food chain is disrupted, many of the organisms may suffer.
