How does my toilet affect the pond?

In summer, the amount of E. coli bacteria counted in the water is particulary high after a strong rainfall. E. coli is a species of bacteria that lives in human feces. After it rains, water seeps into the ground and enters the pond system as runoff. The pond then becomes polluted with E.coli. Large amounts of E. coli bacteria means no swimming and shell fishing in polluted areas of the bay.
