Scientists (even in the United States) use the Celsius scale but they also use the Kelvin scale (K). The Kelvin temperature scale is defined differently than the other temperature scales. Zero Kelvin is the point where there is no thermal energy. Temperatures given in Kelvin have no degree sign (for example: 273 Kelvin). The size of one degree Kelvin is the same size as one degree Celsius.
