Here we go. The cars are loaded with our equipment and we're heading off to Ninigret salt pond in Charlestown, Rhode Island.

Driving down East Beach Road we can smell the salt air. It sure smells good! This road takes us to the State Beach parking lot. From the looks of the lot, it is a good beach day. Hopefully the beach parking lot will have at least one spot open. We wouldn't want to walk with all of our equipment to the salt pond from a lot further away. Whew! It's a tight squeeze, but we manage to find a spot.

Where is the salt pond? From inside the bus all we can see is sand and plants. Oh, wait, I see part of the salt pond. Those plants are blocking my view. Let's get out of the bus to get a better view. It is at least 10 degrees cooler here than at school. When we left it was getting hot outside and there wasn't much of a breeze. It was what we like to refer to as the three H's: hazy, hot and humid. It feels great to be here though. A nice breeze is blowing and cools all of us off. Can we stay here for the rest of the day?

Well, let's get to work. Everyone needs to help carry the equipment. Luckily, everything is small and light. Carrying the seine nets, plankton net, field guide books, cameras, clipboards, notebooks and buckets to collect critters or plant life, we walk down a short, narrow path. The lead person is yelling about something.
