It's a black bird with red patches on its wings and it is jumping from branch to branch and squawking at us. Let's see if we can figure out what kind of bird it is.
Who's got the field guide of birds? This looks like the bird- it's a red-winged blackbird. Why do you think its jumping around on the branches? Maybe it has a nest nearby.We better leave the red-winged blackbird and move on down the path. The ground feels different all of a sudden- it's much softer. This is neat! We're in mud now. See how it squishes up around the soles of your boots? Wow! If we had come to the marsh at high tide, we could have brought our bathing suits and gone for a swim!
